We are happy to share that our new game The Flora has won an Honorable Mention Award from IndieCade’s 2022 Climate Jam! We were invited to talk about it a bit during the award show that you can watch on Twitch along with the other awards winners.
The Flora is inspired by The Skeletons by Jason Morningstar, Artefact by Jack Harrison andA Feeling for the Organism by Evelyn Fox Keller. It’s a meditative structured freeform game where you focus on the perspective of long-lived plants and their history as different human caretakers pass through their lives and the land they share. The game starts with fledging flora growing in our present day, you will begin to feel the marks of human activity, the shifting seasons, and the changing climate as you grow, adapt, spread and eventually decay and die. Draw the Flora throughout its lifespan and the Lot it lives on, changing things on the map and the Flora drawings as you play.
We put a lot of love and work into The Flora and we are looking into doing a print run, so we’ve put a price on the game for $10 to raise funds for that. All of our games thus far we have made available for free for their “digital” versions, whether that’s a pdf copy or an online card browser. We’d like to slowly raise the money for a print run by sales through itch.io, rather than do some kind of crowdfunding campaign, at least, for now. We have however made community copies available for free for those that are in need and can’t afford a copy of the game. Every purchase of the pdf of the game contributes a copy to the community copy pool.
