IndieCade 2022

We are proud to announce that the Creative Dying Card Game has been accepted as a Nominee in the Tabletop Award category for this year’s IndieCade Anywhere and Everywhere Festival!

IndieCade is an organization launched in 2007 as an alternative to the mainstream video game industry and their festivals. It works to create international events and initiatives designed to support independent game development, encourage and bring visibility to emerging work, connect a global community of creators, and cultivate innovation and artistry in the field of interactive media. IndieCade nominated games are chosen by an international panel of judges and curatorial team. The showcases are generally built on film festival models and is sometimes referred to as “the Sundance of the video game industry.”

IndieCade’s Anywhere and Everywhere Festival will take place online in early November and will be an entirely digital event on Steam and Twitch. It will feature Nominated games such as Creative Dying, previous IndieCade Award winning games, as well as alumni and member games across genres, platforms, and experiences. Expect to find game sales, game demos, videos, streams, and talks as well as IndieCade traditions such as the Iron Game Design Challenge, Show-and-Tell, and What’s Next. The Beyond Screens Special Episodes will be streamed on IndieCade’s Twitch.tv channel and rebroadcast throughout the festival on Steam and will feature tours and interviews with Nominated games in Alt Control, LARP, Playable Theater, Tabletop, Escape Room and more–this is most likely where you will find us and the Creative Dying Card Game!

We have offered to participate in a postmortem on our game, as well as another talk sharing some of the things we learned and hope others might learn about through the Creative Dying Card Game, such as death doulas, alternative options for burials and caring for the body after death such as green burials and human composting, Swedish death cleaning, the kinds of paperwork that people should probably have prepared, and the use of psychedelics for patients facing death. With the festival being in early November, we also hope to be able to develop a version of Creative Dying Card Game for Tabletop Simulator. You can check out the other Nominees here!
