Affinity Games Is Going to Meaningful Play 2022
Affinity Games submitted 3 games to the Meaningful Play Game Exhibition and Competition this year–The Transition Year, The Flora, and Creative Dying Card Game–and we are proud to share that all three were accepted!
The Meaningful Play Game Exhibition and Competition is a space for academic, independent, experimental, commercial and serious games, and/or student developers, to gain recognition for their creative and innovative work in game design and development. In particular, the conference and the games showcased are focused on looking at theory, research, and game design innovations, principles and practices around impacting players’ beliefs, knowledge, attitudes, emotions, cognitive abilities, physical and mental health, and behavior. Attendees seek to better understand the many ways that games can be meaningful.
The conference and game exhibition are held every two years, though was cancelled in 2020 because of the (ongoing) pandemic. The first game made by Affinity Games, Fellowship of Fools: The (Friendship) Game, was accepted to Meaningful Play in 2018 and was awarded the People’s Choice Award.
Fingers crossed, the People like one of the three games that we’ll be showcasing this year there just as much.
The Game Exhibition will be October 12, 2022 from 7-10 pm and the Game Competition Awards will be announced on October 14, 2022.
Four of our collective members will be able to attend the exhibition to showcase our work and attend the competition awards. It’ll be the first time we’ve actually all spent time together in-person, what with Covid and living and working in different cities and even states. We can’t express how excited we are to share and play our games with others at the game exhibition and to spend some quality time with each other and connect, finally, in-person.
